Mexican in Mozambique

Dec. 20 3:40pm-ish, Friday afternoon Is anyone still reading this? ha!  Well, for those of you who are... here are the latest novidades na vida do wendel- At the moment, I am stuck in my house waiting for a handy man that is suppose to repair my roof. He came by at noon, scoped out the work and then went to buy the supplies. My dona (my landlady and owner of the house) said he would be back " d'aqui a nada " (in no time). D'aqui a nada ?! Psshh.. let's see what this means, I thought to myself. Well, 3 hours later and no handy man in sight. Why does my house need fixing? Well, my lovely chapa (tin) roof has started leaking during the hard rains. At first it was just in 3-4 isolated places but now the leaks are spreading and there are 3 new leaks right on top of my bed. The other night I crawled into bed and couldn't tell whether my bed was damp or just cold. It was damp. I moved my bed from under the leaks as best I could but that didn't ...

The year is over (well, almost!). December is here and health associations are getting ready to close down for the holiday season, meaning that work is coming to a halt d'aqui a nada . Last week was actually a really busy week of work (hey! I never get to say that!) that served to pretty much close the associations activities for the year. Here's a short re-cap of the past week: Monday, November 25th was the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and my association, LEMUSICA, kicked off a series of activities: Monday Nov. 25th- International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women The association led a march and performed a dance to "One Billion Rising" in the center of town. The director gave a speech about cultural norms that perpetuate the tolerance of violence against women. Hi friends! Wendels here, with a brief update on mihna vida here in Moz.  What's new? It's November and work is winding down. Not sure if I can say that work is slow, because it's actually always slow. Work is slower. Do you all remember my original placement, TIOS? Well, last month they finally admitted that they're not real. haha jk. They finally admitted that they have no work for me (after almost a year of nothingness and wasting my time). I'm not bitter, though. It saves me the hassle of walking to the other side of town just to bullshit and talk about the weather... The agreement turned out to be that they would call me when things 'resume' back up again. Will their projects actually start up again? Mmmm. Don't want to be a Debby Downer... but from what I've seen in that association- I doubt that they will rise back up and be the organization that they once were.  Things at my other organization are fine.
